A interesting encounter

Yesterday we were shopping for furniture. I entered a shop and was met by a young man, Richard, who asked if he could help. I explained that I had moved here, was just looking and would be buying some furniture in the next couple of months. He pegged me for an American and said,
"You mean at election time in your country?"
"Uh, yes"
"Tell me, do you think Obama can win? Because I would love to visit your country but only if Obama wins."

The discussion went from there to McCain and Palin, Botswana, why I would leave the US, what did I think of Bush, and more. Unbelievable.

Mike, thank you so much for all of the updates. So much has changed in your and Lynne's lives and everthing goes on as usual here despite the politics and economy. We are thinking of you both and will continue to follow your adventures closely. Jim MacMillan

Mike! I finally stumbled upon your blog -- have been meaning to for about a week now. I've enjoyed reading your thoughts after a week on the wards; I also feel lucky to have had the opportunity to spend that week with you. Sad to know that I've only but a week left. I will certainly enjoy keeping up to speed via your blog, and plan to stop by for an update regularly. PMH is immeasurably lucky to have you for the foreseeable future, as are we students, the MO's and all others whose lives you will touch from both a personal and medical perspective. Looking forward to one last week, hopefully a few more mind-blowing procedures (i.e. the LP on JJ), and perhaps some post-work "hepatic stress testing" as a team at the GYC. See you on the wards . . .
